Baseballteam

USC Salkehatchie has had baseball on campus since 1972.  For four years the team was a club sport under first coaches Bill Lamprecht and Lee Settlemyre and then under coach Bill Gunnells with Jess Dannelly as the student manage.  In 1976 baseball became an NJCAA intercollegiate sport with Jess Dannelly as the head coach.    Coach Dannelly continued as head coach until the fall of 1984 when Joe Baxter was hired as head coach.  Coach Baxter coached the Indians until the spring of 2004 when the program was discontinued for one year.  Baseball returned to the campus in 2005 with head coach Bubba Dorman who is the current coach.

Over the 41 year history of baseball at USC Salkehatchie, an estimated 1000 players have been a part of the USC Salkehatchie baseball program.  All-region and all-tournament players are too numerous to mention.  Records show that there has been one player who was an NJCAA All-American, Scott Senn.

Six players have signed professional baseball contracts out of  Salkehatchie:  Joe Winkelsas, Oliver Santos, Michael McLeod, Reggie Williams, Ken Chandler and Ali Williams. Since the institution of the Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards in 2007, three baseball players have been selected for the honor:  Sean Pittman (2008) , Brandon Stoots (2012)  and Blake Drew (2013).  Please see the “Where Are They Now” link on this page to learn about players who were able to continue their four-year playing careers after their two years at USC Salkehatchie.
