JucoJunction-Jimmy Givens

The atmosphere was a tiny gym in a rural town in the Low Country
part of South Carolina (Walterboro). The movie “Radio” with Cuba Gooding Jr
was played in this same gym.

USC-Salkehatchie hosted a 4 team classic with the College of Central Florida,
Gulf Coast State College and Allegany College of Maryland. The Indians
fell the first night to Gulf Coast State College and had to come back yesterday
to play the NJCAA National Champions in the College of Central Florida.

The Patriots were out with Rasham Suarez (Southern Mississippi) and Eric
Moeller (Florida Gulf Coast). The Patriots were leading at halftime 44-40 and then
the fireworks took place.

Sophomore Jimmy Givens led the way for the USC-Salkehatchie Indians with
45 points and 12 three pointers made in the game. Givens ties the school record
in points with Von Newsome (1989) and Travis Spells (1990). USC-Salkehatchie
started the basketball program up back 8 years ago under current head coach
Travis Garrett.

The Indians stun the Patriots 92-89.

“Jimmy’s effort was one of the best showings I have ever been apart of in coaching”
said Garrett.

Givens a shooting guard from Savannah, GA will have to go the NCAA D2 route for clock
issues. Fellow sophomore Denzel Collins added 23 points and connected on four
three pointers. The Indians made 18 three pointers in the game.

Javonte Douglas led the way for the Patriots with 28 points, Chris Bryant 22 points and
Rodell Wigginton chipped in 17 points.
