Courtney Bice always knew she wanted to play softball in college.
She was a stalwart at first base for Greenwood’s softball team last season, and, on Wednesday, she signed her letter of intent to continue playing at USC Salkehatchie. “I’ve always enjoyed softball. It has been one of the best games I’ve ever played. I played a lot of sports, but softball is the best,” Bice said. “It’s my favorite. I don’t know how to describe it; I love it. ”Bice led Greenwood to a 7-12 season a year ago as a junior.
USC Salkehatchie, a two-year school in Allendale, started its softball program in 2007 and is approaching its 12th season. Bice said she hopes to transfer to a four-year program and continue playing softball after USC Salkehatchie. Bice added the recruiting process was not as strenuous as she imagined.
“It was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. It was actually pretty easy,” Bice said. “I just went down there, showed my abilities and they liked what I had to offer.”
Bice also said she did not want to stray too far from home, and with USC Salkehatchie being 2 hours and 15 minutes from Greenwood, Bice said it was a good fit.
