Lanie Freeman was selected for the Dean’s Award as the 2018 Female Athlete of the Year at USC Salkehatchie. She is pictured here with Dr. Ann Carmichael, Dean of the USC Salkehatchie Campus who made the selection and presented the award.
Each year Dean Carmichael asks for nominations from our coaches for student athletes who not only have high academic achievement but also a positive attitude on the field and on campus. The idea is that these athletes (male and female) represent what USC Salkehatchie considers the ideal student athlete.
Lanie plays softball at Salk and is the starting second baseman but also plays shortstop. Coach Kenneth Bellamy nominated her for the award and said ” Lanie Freeman is the perfect choice. She is the heart and soul of our team. She shows up every day with a smile on her face and ready to work. She is always there for her teammates on or off the field. She is a true leader.”
Lanie has a 3.6 GPA in a nursing major. She will be graduating in May from Salk with her Associate’s Degree.
