Softball Coach Kenneth Bellamy has announced that he has accepted the position of assistant softball coach at Mercer University, a D1 4-year program in Macon, GA.
Coach Bellamy came into a softball program at Salk 8 years ago that was in shambles and worked to build a program that has become one of the most highly respected softball programs in our region. In 2019 his team won the Region Championship – the first ever in any sport at USC Salkehatchie.
“For the past eight years as a coach and two years some time ago as a student-athlete, I have had the privilege to call Salkehatchie home. I would like to thank former Dean Carmichael and Jane Brewer for giving me the chance to be a head coach. I would also, like to thank Dean Nesmith for continuing to believe in me. I am forever grateful to Salkehatchie for the friends, family, and memories I made and gained while working here. Whenever my team breaks we always say FAMILY and that is what Salkehatchie is, a FAMILY. Even though I am moving on, Salkehatchie will always be home to me. Thank you to all and as always ROLL TRIBE!!”
“This is a huge career move for Coach Bellamy and USC Salkehatchie is excited for him. We will absolutely miss him at Salk, but we are also very proud that all of his hard work has given him such an amazing opportunity,” Director of Athletics Jane Brewer said.
The search for a new softball coach begins immediately.
