January 13, 2021 (Walterboro, S.C.) – USC Salkehatchie has learned of the passing of Alex Sherrill who was a student-athlete at our campus. We send our deepest sympathies to Alex’s family.
Alex was a member of the USC Salkehatchie men’s basketball team, where he was redshirting in his freshman season. “Our hearts are broken from the loss of Alex,” Coach Glen Mayo said. “It was an honor and pleasure to know and coach him. He was an amazing human. He always put others first. His smile was contagious and his passion for basketball could not be contained. He was committed to taking the stairs – he never looked for any shortcuts nor took the easy way out. There is no doubt in my mind that he had a very successful and prosperous future ahead of him.”
Grief counselors will be made available to support our students, faculty, and staff as we grieve this loss. Please keep the Sherrill family in your thoughts and prayers.
