Indian Softball Clinches Regular Season Title

The USC Salkehatchie Women’s Softball Team has clinched the regular season region title with an 8-4 record in regional matches and a 21-16 overall record with two series remaining before the tournament. 

“I could not be more excited for the team,” Head Coach Siara Shelton said.  “The excitement of this being my first season as a head coach and winning the regular season is such an accomplishment in my eyes. For this team, there is so much potential to really make it far and I cannot wait to see what we do in the tournament.  I am so happy to have this under my name for the first season of my head coaching career, but the season is not over, and we still have another title to claim!”

The team has several players who lead the conference statistically.  Pitcher Bree Wilson is leading the conference with 8 wins. Pitcher Maddie Poston is on the leader board with 5 wins and pitcher Maddy Gwin is on the leader board with an ERA of 4.20.

Ali Sarman and Abriana Berry are on the leader board with their batting averages of .500 and .458. The team is leading the conference in runs batted in with Abriana Berry at 46, Shea Zweifel at 30, Essence Champion and Olivia Wilber at 27 and Kelsey Hill at 25. The homerun leader board includes several Indians with Abriana Berry leading with 10 and Essence Champion, Shea Zweifel, Kelsey Hill and Olivia Wilber all with 6.  Lauren Wexler is on the leader board with 12 stolen bases.

The All-Region Teams will be announced during the tournament April 30 – May 2 which will be hosted at the ACE Basin Complex in Walterboro, S.C.
