USC Salkehatchie began intercollegiate softball in the fall 2006 with the first season in spring 2007 with Mitch Smith as the first coach. Smith coached the team until the fall of 2010. From fall 2010 until the fall of 2012, Tatjana Slawson-Matthews was the head coach. In August 2012, Coach Kenneth Bellamy became the head coach and will be beginning his fifth year with the program for the 2016-17 year.
In addition to the numerous players who have made both all-region and all-tournament teams over the seven years of the program, six USC Salkehatchie softball players have made the NJCAA Academic All-American rosters including Samantha Martin who completed her two years at USC Salkehatchie with an Associate’s Degree and a perfect 4.0 gpa. In addition, Cea Knox was named as a COSIDA ESPN Academic All-American.
See the “Where Are They Now” link on this page for a list of USC Salkehatchie softball players who went on to play at four year colleges after their two years at Salk.
